The ending of a story should leave an emotional impact upon your readers. You want to leave a lasting impression. After all, this is the end of the story that you have worked on for so long. It needs to be special, it needs to be something that your readers will remember. If you think about it, the end of the story is likely to be one of the components that your readers will remember the most, since it will eventually be the most recent part that they have read.
